What is the energy of any person but to express pure spirit. (Not pure consciousness as that is the realm of the Magician). In astrology the soul or self is seen as your sun sign, and on The Fool we see the Sun symbolising spirit. The present can be seen as a forever flowing continuum. The Fool is ever present. Never learns from the past, so cannot plan for the future. Wisdom and understanding lie in other cards. A lot of new age thinking denotes the value of “now” staying in the “now”, almost banishing past and future territory as a place you never want to visit, or share, and most advocates feel bad if they reflect on the past or worry about the future.
They see this as a kind of wrong thinking as a block to spiritual wholeness. Yet our understanding of past and future is essential for true reflection, and our ability to plan ahead, which gives us the advantage over other species to a very high degree.
The problem is when a persons “thoughts” gets stuck in past or future states, that is when our energy is drained from us and our spirit gets stuck in a holding pattern of inertia. The spirit however way the mind thinks or navigates our world, or our perceptions of it, is always present. Wisdom comes from our past experiences and our future benefits from it.
Some people think that spiritual wholeness must be a state of eternal happiness. Or ever present happiness, smiling all the time. This too, is a trap. Any extreme requires energy to be spent. No person can remain “happy” all the time, or “sad” all the time. It becomes exhausting, and to pretend, then becomes a lie. This is the failure of most new age thinkers.
The Fool is like the Tao. Zero the number of this card and points to Zero point energy. And the zero point between sadness and happiness is neutral. Or another way of expressing this is a state of “inner comfortableness”. To be comfortable requires no energy to be expressed. It just ** is ** . So allowing your inner self, your spirit to center at comfortableness and to do this effortlessly is The first great spiritual teaching of this card we know as The Fool.
